sIFR, CSS & iPhones

Jul 23, 2011 at 9:29 AM

Hi All,

Firstly, thanks to everyone involved in creating and supporting CWS2 - It looks great and I'm learning loads from using it ...

However, I'd just like to check that I'm not missing a trick:

Many of the visitors to my website use iPhones and so can't "see" the sIFR fonts.

So, am I correct in thinking that for every edit I make to the sifr-config.js file I have to make a corresponding change to the appropriate css file ?

For my application, specialist font's aren't (yet) a key feature so to reduce workload is there a document available showing how to disable the sIFR function for now?

Many thanks,

Des

Hi Des,
Thank you for the nice feedback.

In regards to the sIFR technique, markup & CSS this is a very old method of using custom fonts in your website and CSS3 Font Embedding was not widely available.
I recommend you use something like http://www.google.com/webfonts which uses the new CSS3 @font-face method, which will work with many devices such as mobile devices.

To disable sIFR simply delete the sIFR JS files, the flash based SWF font file & related CSS file and remove the references in the top level masterpage in the <head> section.

Thanks,
Warren :)

Hi Warren,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I will investigate your suggestion, looks like I had better get learning "again" ;-)
